DP is a volunteer breast feeding support peer. She started volunteering 11 yrs ago when she had her own daughter and attended breast feeding support sessions. She delivers group sessions or 1-1 support to new mums who are unsure about breast feeding or having problems.
“I have had lots of positive feedback, cards and letters thanking me for the help I’ve given, a lot of mums would have given up breast feeding after a couple of attempts and given their babies the bottle but with my support and help they have continued to breast feed past 6 weeks. I’ve made lots of new friends and have a strong support network, plus it’s another string to my bow.”
She also encourages new mums to think about becoming breast feeding support peers. DP is totally committed to breast feeding and is very experienced. She has accessed training and will volunteer her time to attend ante natal classes to promote breast feeding.
