FAMILY LIVES RESPONSE: Business lobby group blast minister's comments on flexible working to avoid rush hour

“The Forum of Private Business is correct to assert that congestion and capacity are indeed factors that need to be built on and improved in order for parents and non-parents alike to avoid the daily ordeal known as the somewhat misleading rush hour’. However, Family Lives’ recent “Family Friendly or Failing Families?” report highlighted that flexible working continues to be viewed solely as a parental perk and whilst this perception remains, parents will continue to be discriminated against in the workplace and will struggle to reconcile home and work life in a way that meets their needs. With some train companies extending peak charging hours - starting as early as 3pm in some parts of the country - workplaces should explore new information technologies which promote mobile and remote working, many of which can be implemented at low or no additional cost. After all, a happy workforce is a productive workforce.”
